Jon Kling

Chief Executive Officer

Jon Kling is the founder and Chief Executive Officer of Municipal Acquisitions and leads all of the firm’s investment and strategy initiatives. Mr. Kling has nearly 30 years of real estate, investment banking, and principal investment experience.

Prior to founding Municipal Acquisitions, Mr. Kling was a Director of Real Estate Investment Banking at Johnson Capital where he assisted owners in accessing institutional sources of equity and debt, with a particular focus on value add and opportunistic debt and equity transactions.

Before joining Johnson Capital, Mr. Kling was a shareholder and the Senior Originator for Bridger Commercial Funding, a San Francisco-based commercial real estate lender affiliated with Bank of America Securities. In this position, Mr. Kling was the company’s senior credit officer in the Eastern United States where he supervised the origination of commercial real estate loans out of the company’s regional offices in Atlanta, New York, and Washington DC. At Bridger, Mr. Kling was responsible for closing more than $350 million in CMBS and mezzanine loans.

Mr. Kling was also an investment banker at Friedman, Billings, Ramsey & Company, Inc. where he specialized in public and private offerings of debt and equity; as well as mergers and acquisitions for banks, thrifts, specialty finance companies and Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs). Additionally, Mr. Kling worked on several public company bankruptcy recapitalizations and special committee representations. During his tenure at FBR, Mr. Kling was involved in the consummation of more than $2.8 billion of capital markets transactions.

Mr. Kling earned a B.A. from Tulane University and an M.S. in Real Estate with a concentration in Institutional Real Estate Portfolio Management from Johns Hopkins University.

He is a member of the Johns Hopkins Carey Business School Dean’s Advisory Council, the Johns Hopkins Real Estate and Infrastructure Advisory Board, and the Corporate Advisory Council of Children’s National Medical Center. Additionally, Mr. Kling serves as the alumni advisor and judge to the Municipal Acquisitions Student Venture Showcase.

He has been active in numerous professional organizations, such as Entrepreneurs’ Organization (EO) and the National Association of College and University Business Officers (NACUBO) and has lectured on real estate finance at the graduate level.
